Shrines of Ahlul Bait arround the World
Ahlul Bait are the members of the Holy family of Prophet (AS&S)
Ahlul Bait literally means "The People of the House" referring to
those who lived and were raised in the vicinity of the Prophet
(AS&S) and later their descendants..
Usually Ahlul Bait refer to the parents, uncles (and aunts),
Allah only wishes to remove all abomination from you,
ye Members of the Family, and to make you pure and spotless.
[al-Ahzab 33:33]
The Shrines in which members of Ahlul Bait are buried
have become a Mazar (a place of visit) where millions
come to pray, wish, and pay respect to the Holy Family..
These Shrines are usually called either Darih or Mashad
which can be described clearly in our glossary. Also many
bury their dead in the vicinity of the Ahlul Bait Shrines wishing
to earn some of their blessings and the mercy of God in which
they rest in Peace..
Female members of Ahlul Bait are usually titled Sayyidah
(Arabic: Mistress Lady), Sharifa (Arabic: Noble Lady,
used mainly in North Africa) and Bibi (Persian and Turkic: Lady)
while the male members of Ahlul Bait are titled Imam,
(Arabic: leader of the Ummah, most commonly used)
or Imamzadeh (Persian), or Sayyid (Arabic: Master/Lord)
or Sharif (Arabic: Noble Master, used mainly in North Africa).

20th Safar - Chehlum (Arbaeen) of the martyrs of Karbala
20th Safar 1430 A.H. – Day of Arbaeen - Chehlum (40 days) of the martyrs of Karbala.
20th Safar is the 16th of February 2009 in almost all parts of the world.
I extend my condolences to the Prophet Muhammad(sawaw),
Imam-e-Zamana(a.s.), Bibi Fatimas(s.a.), the Ahl-e-Bait(a.s.) and all
momineen and mominaat on this sad occasion.
As is customary among the momineen, please organize and attend
majalis-e-Aza and jaloos to commemorate the chehlum of Shuhada-e-Karbala.
According to a saying of Imam Hasan Askari(a.s.) –
there are five characteristics of a Momin
(1) Recitation of 51 Rakaat of Farz, Sunnat and Nafl
prayers during the day and night ;
[Fajr - 2 Wajib and 2 Nafl,
Zuhr - 4 Wajib and 8 Nafl,
Asr – 4 Wajib and 8 Nafl,
Maghrib - 3 Wajib and 4 Nafl,
Ishaa – 4 Wajib and 1 Nafl (2 rakaat in sitting position counted as 1),
Namaz-e-Shab (Tahajjud) 11 Rakat Sunnat];
(2) Recitation of Ziarat-e-Imam Hussain(a.s.) on the 40th
day of his martyrdom (20th of Safar);
(3) Wearing a ring in the right hand ;
(4) Prostration on Khak-e-Shifa (earth of Karbala); and
(5) Saying aloud "Bismillah ir Rahman nir Raheem" in the prayers.

A few words of Masaib

According to most widely accepted traditions, the family
of Prophet(sawaw) remained in captivity for about a year.
After one year when the ruler of Syria were forced to release them,
Bibi Zainab(s.a.) said to Imam Sajjad(a.s.) that she wanted
to go back to Karbala to mourn his brother and all the martyrs of Karbala.
The same was desired by other women of this caravan and
Imam Sajjad(a.s.) directed them towards Karbala.
The caravan arrived in Karbala. Every bibi rushed towards the
place where their loved ones were martyred. Most of the bibis
then gathered at the Ganj-e-Shahidaan upon indication of Imam
Sajjad(a.s.) that they were all buried there. Some were lamenting
for their son, some for their father, some for their brother,
some for their husband and some for their relatives.
Bibi Umm-e-Farwa was saying at Qasim(a.s.)'s grave –
oh my dear Qasim, you really fulfilled my wishes by sacrificing your youth.
I had always wished to see the red color of your marriage but you replaced
it with the blood of your horse-ridden corpse which was put together piece by piece.
Bibi Umm-e-Laila was saying at Akbar(a.s.)'s grave –
Oh my yousaf-e-sani I had always wished for your marriage and
to bring a beautiful bride for you. Your sister Sughra is waiting for
you to return so she could fulfill all her wishes in the wedding of her
brother. What would I tell her? You are lying here in your blood and your
heart-broken mother is still living to bear all the agony.
Bibi Umm-e-Rubab brought with her the little kurta of Ali Asghar(a.s.) and
put it over his grave. Oh Ali Asghar, how could I ever stay
in the shade when you and your father are lying in the scorching sun.
I lost you here and lost your sister Sakina in zindan-e-Shaam.
I remember your bright and shining little face when I buried you
with the help of your father. How could I ever forget those moments.
Bibi Zainab(s.a.) along with Imam Sajjad(a.s.) went close to the
river of farat and said Oh my brother Abbas(a.s.) – see what
happened after you were martyred. It could never have happened
if you were there. She then went to the grave of her brother Imam
Hussain(a.s.) and lamented – Oh my dear brother, I had promised
you that your message would reach every where and I would protect
the Islam for which you sacrificed
your life. I am successful in that but you know at what cost? I went
through bazaar-e-Shaam without hijaab and faced the tyrant drunkards
of darbar-e-Shaam. I took over the role of Abbas after him and faced
hardships all along. I took on my back the lashes of Shimr that were
directed at your beloved Sakina but I could not protect her from the
sorrows of being away from you. I have lost her and left her buried
in the prison of Damascus.
Ala lanatullahe ala qaumiz zalimeen. Sa yalamul lazina zalamu ayya munqalibi yanqaliboon.

17th Safar Martyrdom of Imam Ali Riza(a.s.)
AsSalam-o-Alaikum,
17th Safar 1430 A.H. - the Martyrdom anniversary of Imam Ali ibn-e-Moosa ar-Riza(a.s.) - the 8th Holy Imam.
It is a day of mourning and special majalis and taboot processions are organized throughout the Shiite world. On this sad occasion, I present my condolences to Prophet Mohammad(sawaw), Imam-e-Zamana(a.s.), the Ahl-e-Bait(a.s.) and all momineen and mominaat.
I encourage you to organize and attend majalis and jaloos of Imam
Riza(a.s.) and offer nazrana to the Imam(a.s.) to renew you allegiance to the Prophet Mohammad(sawaw) and his Ahl-e-Bait(a.s.).

His Martyrdom

Imam Ali Riza(a.s.) was summoned by Mamoon in his court and was offered some grapes which were injected with poison. Imam(a.s.) knew about it and politely declined to eat but Mamoon insisted saying that it appears that Imam(a.s.) has doubt on his intentions. Imam(a.s.) was aware from ilm-e-imamat that the time of his martyrdom has arrived and therefore ate a few grapes and left the court.
He(a.s.) arrived in Bait-ush-Sharaf. Abul Salat stayed outside on the door to guard. He mentions that he heard some conversation and movement inside so he went in to check and saw that a young lad was with Imam Riza(a.s.). He was surprised that no one had entered the room from the door so how could this young lad come in. The young lad said that he was Mohammad ibn-e-Ali Riza(a.s.) and he has been brought from Madina by Allah(swt) to take over the responsibilities of Imamat and that distances and walls are no hindrances for Imams(a.s.). When an Imam is about to leave this world, the next one stays with him to take over all the responsibilities.
Imam Ali Riza(a.s.) breathed his last after a short period and Imam Mohammad Taqi(a.s.) performed his ghusal, kafn and recited namaz-e-janaza and then instructed Abu Salat to announce the martyrdom of Imam Ali Riza(a.s.). To conceal the crime, Mamoon then organized a state funeral and mourning since Imam Ali Riza(a.s.) was a royal price as well.
The confirmation of poisoning of Imam(a.s.) by Mamoon is mentioned in the following books: Rodatus Safa, Shawahid-un-Nabuwwah, Kamil, Murawajuz Zahab, Noorul Absar, Al-Fakhri, Matalibus Suwal, Tazheeb Tahzeebul Kamal, Mukhtasar Akhbarul Khulafa and others.
Some historians such as Shibli Nomani have doubted that Mamoon would have poisoned the Imam(a.s.). It is to be noted that Mamoon never tried to investigate and punish the killers even though Imam Riza(a.s.) was the royal price and this seems strikingly strange since rules of Bani Ummaya had made a big issue out of the killing of Hazrat Usman and repeatedly had accused Imam Ali(a.s.) of involvement. Moreover, a person such as Mamoon who had killed his own brother in the name of justice did nothing to find the killers of Imam(a.s.) is a sufficient proof in itself that his character was not clean in this conspiracy.

8th Safar - Martyrdom of Hazrat Sakina bintal Hussain(a.s.)

6th (or 8th) Safar - Martyrdom of Hazrat Sakina bint al-Hussain(a.s.).
According to different historical accounts, between the 3rd and 13th Safar is the martyrdom anniversary of Bibi Sakina bint-al-Hussain(a.s.) - the 4-year old beloved daughter of Imam Hussain(a.s.) who died in the prison of Damascus after the family of the Prophet Mohammad(sawaw) was made prisoner after the events of Karbala and detained in the prison of Damascus. She is also known as Ruqqayya bint-al-Hussain(a.s.) in the Arab world. (Some historians doubt this and say that Sakina(a.s.) and Ruqqayya(a.s.) are two different daughters of Imam Hussain(a.s.))

A few words of Masaib

From the time when Imam Hussain(a.s.) was martyred in the battle field, Bibi Sakina(a.s.) forgot to smile. Kufa saw her as a little girl lost in thoughts. Quite often she would sit up at night. When asked if she wanted anything, she would say, "I just heard a baby cry? Is it Asghar? He must be calling out for me!"
Knowing that her weeping upset her mother, Bibi Sakina(a.s.) would cry silently and quickly wipe away her tears. In the prison in Damascus she would stare at the flock of birds flying to their nests at sunset and innocently ask Bibi Zainab(s.a.), "Will Sakina ever be going home like those birds flying to their homes?"
Then one dreadful night Bibi Sakina(a.s.) went to bed on the cold floor of the prison. For a long time she stared into the darkness! She might have been asleep for only a while when she woke up and said to her aunt Zainab(s.a.) “Phuphi amma I saw my father – he was calling me saying O Sakina – O my child I have come to take you with me. Come to me my child” …… and bibi Sakina(a.s.) started crying. She cried and cried and then all of a sudden she went quiet. Her aunts thought she has slept and they left her in peace.
The time for the morning prayers came. Her mother called out: "Wake up, Sakina! Wake up, it is time for prayers, my child!" There was only the painful silence! Our fourth Imam Zain-ul-Abideen(a.s.) walked up to Sakina(a.s.) and caressed her and put his hand on her forehead. It was cold! He put his hand near the mouth and the nose. Bibi Sakina(a.s.) had stopped breathing. In between sobs Imam Zain-ul-Abideen(a.s.) recited: "INNA LILLAHI WA INNA ILAYHI RAAJI'OON!". All the ladies of ahlul-bait gathered around and started weeping – Haey Sakina(a.s.) haey haey Sakina(a.s.).
How was Bibi Sakina(a.s.) buried

Bibi Zainab(s.a.) held the still child while Imam Zain-ul-Abideen(a.s.) dug a grave in the cell. They tried to change her dress and put a proper kafan but her dress was so glued to her body with her blood that it would not come out without hurting her tender body. In tears they decided to bury her in her blood-soaked clothes.
As the grave was being filled up after the burial Hazrat Umm-e-Rubaab – her mother - let out a scream! How could anyone console Bibi Rubaab(a.s.)? What could they say? They huddled around her, and the prison walls began to shake with the cry: "Ya Bibi Sakina(a.s.), YA MAZLOOMAH!!" Bibi Rubaab(a.s.) put her cheek on Bibi Sakina(a.s.)'s grave and cried out: "Speak to me, Sakina! Only a word, my child! Speak to me!! – I lost my little Asghar in Karbala and now you are leaving me!!!"

In the vastness of the planets and celestial inhabitations, some lofty spirits, who were the best of creatures and who had been created by Allah the Almighty as the essence of the aim of the universe and were the means for Divine recognition, were busy in the glorification, adoration and veneration of their Lord. Thus, when the infallible Imam (a.s.) was asked about his (a.s.) creation, he (a.s.) replied,
"We were created before the creation of the angels. We were watching the creation of other celestial creatures from the silence of non-existence, when none existed except us."
When this earth, with all its adornments, had opened up its lap to receive the inhabitations of the children of Adam (a.s.), its relations were bonded with the infallible Imams (a.s.) to prepare and train the powers of mankind's seeing and hearing.
In the creation of mankind, the Creator has instilled an element that keeps jolting its wisdom and understanding time and again and keeps drawing his attention towards his Lord. Humanity deliberated on the evident principles and gained the ability to distinguish between good and evil; to take an account of his profit and loss, he used all the beautiful efforts available at his disposal.
When the talk arose of profit and loss, there were differences and disagreements between the good and the evil; armies were lined up; spears were shining on the kingdoms of emperors from the battlefields; swords were sharpened and the infantry and the cavalry were arranged. The tents of peace and contentment were uprooted from the earth, now divided into countries and emirates. When the foundations of emperors' palaces developed any weakness, they were strengthened with the blood of the weak and the helpless; the downtrodden and demoralized were thrown into barren, infertile and unproductive lands. It seemed as if a storm of the oppressed had erupted before the oppressors and the tyrants. An unknown, harsh, offensive, scary, stinging, terrifying and frightening cry exposed a secret of the planets that this shriek was that of the Satan, the erstwhile member of the celestial world. On hearing this cry, innocent children hurried into their mothers' laps. Oppressed women gave up their lives in order to protect their chastity and modesty. The bones of the youth were crushed in the mills of tyranny and cruelty.
When Satan initiated his vices and the forces of oppression of cruel tyrants like Namrood, Firaon, Haamaan and their clones raised their ugly heads, Allah - the High and the Mighty - sent His emissaries, Prophet Ibraheem (a.s.) and Prophet Moosa (a.s.) with the message of humanity and revealed unto them His laws through His proximate angels. The residents of the celestial world became the anchor of the earth's ship, thereby shoring it to safety from the tumultuous waves of the ocean of tyranny and oppression. Then followed the series of divine Prophets (a.s.) and Messengers (a.s.) to calm the earth. But would the negligent man, intoxicated with the power of rebellion, heed anybody's advice? Autocrats bearing the nature of Firaon, Namrood and Qaaroon were born in every era with new proportions of despotism and repression. Bribery became the order of the day and the deep but filthy nets of conspiracies spread far and wide. It appeared as if this was the only enjoyment of life, the very aim of existence. All permissible and prohibited traits like truth, nobility, sympathy, friendship, humanity, amity, selflessness, sacrifice, etc., were stitched and worn under this system, as per the political demands and considerations. As a result, threads of ostentation appeared all around. But Allah the High had promised that the more the people of the Book would try to conceal its realities, the more He would unveil them, guide them with His open signs and grant contentment to their hearts. No matter in what disguise these political and evil Machiavellians appear, they will fail to hide their tarred faces; the greater the power, the longer will be their period of chastisement and talks of disgrace and degradation will be commonplace. Thus, Allah the High will bring out His virtuous servants from the darkness of deviation to the light of guidance.
From Rome to Persia, the reigns of the so-called Muslim governments of the Syrians and the Arabs were such that they made the tyrannies and cruelties of Firaon and Namrood appear like minor, non-cognizable offences. The slyness, deceits, conspiracies and licentiousness of Moaviyah, the Emir of Syria, had fallen to such pits that the evils of the past seemed like trivial misdeeds. Labeling all vices as Islamic, the accursed Satan had decorated them in the palaces of every Muslim ruler and chief. A storm was about to erupt in the sea of blood, when the grandson of the Prophet (s.a.w.a.), Imam Hasan al-Mujtaba (a.s.) prevented it through his peace treaty with the spiteful Emir. After the death of Moaviyah, his son Yazid indulged in such dirty play that will reveal the writing of a bloody Syria on every coming era till the Day of Judgment. Every coming morn will appear wearing its shroud, as if each ray of the sun is penetrating the heart of justice with the despots' spear of tyranny.

It was calling out to Adam, the chosen one of Allah, for help; beseeching Nuh (a.s.) to provide the parts of the Ark; imploring Ibraheem (a.s.) to exercise patience, supplicate and plead with Allah; to provide the awe of Moosa, the addressee of Allah's speech; requesting Eesa (a.s.) to spread out his prayer-mat on the Divine Throne; the grandson of the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.), the beloved of Hazrat Zahra (s.a.) is about to reach the barren and infertile land of Nainava (the other name for Karbala) and in the process, ripping apart Hurr's army. In a short span of ten days, a war between truth and falsehood will take place; in which, the small but extremely loyal army of Imam Husain (a.s.) will clash with the huge multitude of Kufans and Syrians. The past Prophets (a.s.) will be in a state of confusion and perplexity and invoke the Almighty, 'O Lord! Grant a clear victory to our heir!'

Hurr placed the standard of freedom on his shoulders and ordered that his hands be tied behind his back and he be blindfolded. His son, brother and slave accompanied him. Despite being among the earthly creatures, the embodiment of repentance, Hurr, managed to stir amazement in the celestial inhabitants. His feat was so enormous that till date the handkerchief of the Lady of Paradise, Hazrat Zahra (s.a.), is adorning the his forehead. The fact is that Hurr salvaged the pride of all of us, the monotheist inhabitants of the earth.
Come! Let's all try to comprehend the magnitude of Hurr's act and deliberate over his value and worth. Let us cast a glance at the vastness of Hurr's conscience. Let us examine the attributes of courage, bravery and willpower in our own selves and analyze our level of repentance in the mirror of Hurr's historical sacrifice. Let us measure our acts on his scale and then we lovers of Imam Husain (a.s.) can exclaim, "We earthly creatures also have value and are loved by Allah the Almighty."

Let us examine the attributes of courage, bravery and willpower in our own selves and analyze our level of repentance in the mirror of Hurr's historical sacrifice. Let us measure our acts on his scale and then we lovers of Imam Husain (a.s.) can exclaim, "We earthly creatures also have value and are loved by Allah the Almighty."
